Who We Are

Born in Asheville, Rooted in Nature

The Church of Nature started as a private church, formed in 2012 in Asheville, North Carolina. Its first meetings were a small circle of close friends sharing the challenges of life and speaking openly about their common beliefs. Those meetings were full of heartfelt sharing. Many who came and experienced it, said it was the best church experience they had ever had.

Winston provided his house and acted as a facilitator in those formative gatherings. What united everyone was a deep care for the environment and for one another, and the conviction that a religion infused with sustainability and ecology was needed.

Unlike many churches, the Church of Nature met in a circle from the beginning. That shape still reflects the community's spirit: relational, non-authoritarian, and grounded in shared care.

Though flawed as we all are, Morgan simply strives to be as loving as possible, helping carry forward the original vision that nature is holy, that community matters, and that faith should be lived in ways that honor the Earth and each other.

The church continues to gather remotely and in person, keeping the same early emphasis on compassion, ecology, sincerity, and an open circle where people can come as they are. Contact us to learn more.

In the early meetings, people gathered as close friends, spoke about what they were facing in life, and listened to one another in a spirit of care. That same circle of honesty, reflection, and reverence still shapes the church today.

The Sacred Property

In 2022, the Church of Nature came to possess land through its land trust. That sacred property became a living expression of the church's values.

The effort since then has been to form a healthy relationship with the land and to live on it as lightly as possible. The property holds the chapel, fire circles, a fully-functioning farm, and open spaces used for seasonal gatherings.
